Nice to see some folks heading over.... still an empty playground so far.
Oye, I need my next assignment to be closer to my house.... These 75-90 minute commutes each way are killing me.

You'd be amazed at how many doctors still use paper charts for medical records.
I basically take the paper medical charts and enter them in a digital format and take outside (of the hospital system) lab results, x-ray findings and such and scan them. One of the major advantages of it is that if you go from your family doctor to a specialist (or vice versa) the doc can see what the other one said (via tablet/computer) without having to send the whole medical file over to the other office. Also comes in handy if you need to visit the emergency room. Say you come in with undefined chest pains. If it's the same hospital system they'll know that your family doc has been treating you for (off the top of my head) a lung infection, what medicines you are on, and which drugs you are known to be allergic to.
It works good as a cost cutting measure. You're not getting the same tests done by 3 different doctors (as well as having to take a day off work and a huge ding to your insurance deductibles).
Most days I wish I had that time machine so I could go back about 25 years and write a decent program to handle the stuff. I'd be racking in the big bucks now.
I'm pretty much an uncaring heartless SOB most of the time, but it makes me count my blessings when I see a kid's file that is 4 inches thick. Makes me plenty thankful that my daughter is generally "normal" and healthy.
